Indy HIE Expands Services

Indianapolis - The Indiana Health Information Exchange has launched its Quality Health First disease management and preventive health services notification program.

The QHF program uses claims data and other information from insurers and other sources to send reminders to physicians about patients due for preventive health screenings. The list also includes patients who require follow-up care to manage chronic disease. Physicians receive disease-based summaries of their patient population and how it compares to the physician community as a whole.

The HIE developed the program during the past two years with large group practices in the Indianapolis area and has about 700 physician users. It now is offering the program to all primary care physicians in the nine-county region. In 2009, the organization expects to offer QHF to certain specialists--including cardiologists and orthopedists--in the Indianapolis region and to primary care physicians throughout the state.

The Employers' Forum of Indiana conceived the QHF program and the HIE received grants totaling $3.7 million to develop and roll it out. More information is available at qualityhealthfirst.org.
